"Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your request known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts in Christ Jesus."
Many of us like the people in the gospel are constantly asking the same question, what must I do to inherit the kingdom of God? what else can I do? At times figuring out our lives can be quite difficult - that is why listening to the voice of God is key to not only understanding what he wants from us but how to follow him more faithfully.
Today in our gospel passage many were coming to John the Baptist asking "What should we do? John the Baptist was pretty direct - telling them the TRUTH and always pointing them to the person of Jesus Christ. John reminds us in a gentle and beautiful way that in order for us to be at peace, we must do that which is right and just. Following in the footstep of Jesus is key to our spiritual survival and well being.
What should we do? Listen to this simple advice and do likewise:
"Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. Stop collecting more than what is prescribed. Do not practice extortion, do not falsely accuse anyone, and be satisfied with your wages."
Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts in Christ Jesus."
Be at peace and remain blessed!
